Today in Pistoia ( small town near Florence ) we celebrate Saint Bartolomeo martyr.
He is the patron Saint Of children so since I was a child I remember this day Of commemoration as a very happy one: streets around San Bartolomeo’s Church are full Of food & toys stalls with lots if sweets and a Special kind of cake called ‘corona’ = crown in English, made of a sort of pasta frolla biscuits called ‘pippi’as the name of a necklace parts or a Rosary.
Children loved wearing it and then… eat them especially those with chocolate or confetti on them .
After The Mess children receive a Special blessing with holy oil on their forehead to protect them from fallen and accidents.
This Morning the Church was ~ as usually ~ crowded and I felt as I was 40 years back !
Enjoy all these sweets I didn t buy as I am on diet !!😜😜
How wonderful, my boys would of loved that! I caught up with my friend who lives in Pistoia and she never mentioned it…….I guess we were to busy catching up on the past 8 years. Great photos :]
